Wave Makers — Episode 5: Margo, Finding Freedom in Flow

Wave Makers — Episode 5: Margo, Finding Freedom in Flow

Moving with the Ocean and Capturing What Will Not Return

Some people cross paths with Ninefoot and become part of its story in a way that feels natural and lasting. Margo is one of them. Over the years, she has been a constant presence in the Ninefoot journey — not only as a collaborator, but as a woman who truly lives the values behind the brand. She has trusted our swimwear in and out of the water, joined us in multiple photo sessions that always felt effortless and deeply connected, and shown an exceptional level of professionalism and creative sensitivity. Watching her work, move, and grow has been something we’ve experienced firsthand — and it’s been inspiring every step of the way.

There is a quiet sense of freedom in the way she moves through life. Not loud or performative, but grounded. It shows in how she surfs, how she photographs, and how she has chosen to shape her life around the sea.

How do you move with the ocean? 🌊

Surfing, for me, has never been about control.

“The ocean doesn’t respond to force. You can’t fight it. You can only move with it.”

That understanding stays with me long after I leave the water. It shapes the way I approach work, creativity, and everyday life. Less resistance. More listening.

What draws you to photography? 📷

I’m drawn to moments that won’t return.

“I try to capture the moment, because it never comes again.”

Light shifts. Expressions change. Waves pass. What is missed cannot be recreated. Presence becomes the most valuable skill.

Photography and surfing mirror each other in this way. Both exist entirely in the present. Both reward those who slow down enough to notice what is already there.

Why did you choose Bali as home? 🌴

Five years ago, I made Bali my home.

"I feel calm near the ocean, that's why i came here."

I stayed for the rhythm. Days shaped by tides instead of schedules. Mornings filled with salt in the air. An island where simplicity and depth exist side by side.

Do you remember your first wave? 🌊

My relationship with surfing began ten years ago.

"I loved it from the first wave."

Surfing became a reason to return again and again. Not for perfection, but for progress measured in small wins. A clean takeoff. A short ride. A moment of balance. Every small win means a lot.

What has surfing taught you beyond the water? ✨

Surfing doesn’t end at the shoreline. It taught me acceptance. Some things you can’t control.”Resistance only makes the experience harder. Adaptation is where ease begins. This way of moving flows into everything I do, from my creative work to my daily life.

What does being a wavemaker mean to you? 💙

Margo moves quietly, with intention. In the water and behind the lens, she listens before she acts. Surfing and photography meet in the same place for her — presence. A way of paying attention to what is already there.
