How to know if your swimwear can handle serious swell
Wearing uncomfortable surfwear can distract you from the bliss of cruising down your next wave, leaving you worried about a mishap. Now more than ever, women surfers need swimwear that offers functional sophistication in the ocean.
As the surf industry evolves, more female owned and operated surfwear labels are bringing a woman’s perspective to both the style and functional elements of surfwear. Being suitably supported, while still feeling stylish, is giving women a greater sense of freedom in the ocean by allowing them to focus on their surfing, rather than their wardrobe.
There’s nothing worse than having to worry about a nip slip or a wedgie.

Designed by Women Surfers, for Women Surfers
Wearing a garment that was specifically designed for you, by someone who understands your body, is key to having swimwear that performs well in even the biggest surf conditions. At Ninefoot Studio, we want you to feel, think, and move confidently in the water, knowing that your surfwear won’t get in the way of catching that perfect wave. We’ve developed an eco-friendly swimwear range centered around empowering women to feel elegant and confident, even in big swell.
We want to give you the freedom to fully immerse yourself in your surf session, while feeling great, rather than focusing on a potential wardrobe slip!
Ninefoot Founder and Head Designer, Lucia has combined her fashion design and pattern making expertise, with her years in the ocean, to create a brand that is truly focused around women who surf. You can jump into the water feeling relaxed and fully present, knowing that your surfwear will keep its form and remain in place.
Surfwear faces so many conflicting elements that make it tricky to perfect. It needs to be flexible so you don’t feel restricted, yet supportive enough so nothing moves out of place. It needs to feel comfortable to wear, yet be strong enough to maintain its shape, and so on. From simple things like linings to avoid transparency, to more complicated features like cutaways that show just enough skin, every part of the Ninefoot design process is thoughtfully considered.

The Surfwear Elements That Guarantee Big Swell Performance
1. Tested in The Surf
Ocean conditions are harsh, unforgiving, and challenging at times. So, to really know if a surfwear piece will consistently perform in serious swell, it needs to be tested in real-life conditions.
Each Ninefoot surfwear piece is rigorously tested in a range of surf conditions by women with varying skill levels. The pieces are tested by women like you for things like comfort, support, hold, durability, flexibility, and functionality.

2. Designed for All Women
We believe that surfing should offer an inclusive environment where all women have the freedom to surf confidently. We design versatile pieces that are made to fit all body shapes and sizes. Our prototypes are tried and tested on a diverse range of body shapes and sizes to make sure their style elements are functionally suited to all body types, even in big surf.

3. A Solid Footing with ECONYL®
A garment’s fabric acts as its foundation which plays an essential role in its structure. Creating an ultra-durable product that faces harsh ocean conditions requires a solid foundation. Ninefoot surfwear pieces are created from luxury ECONYL® regenerated nylon imported from Italy. It’s strong yet soft to the touch, flexible yet it retains its shape, and UV50/water resistant yet light. It’s the perfect foundation for creating durable surfwear pieces that have all the design elements needed to withstand serious swell.

4. Built to Last
Creating garments that perform well in big waves require innovative, meticulous production techniques. Good seams are like strong bones; they form a solid structure for the garment. We use a superior elastic that’s thicker and stronger on the seams than others you’ll find on the market. We’ve also worked closely with our local factory to incorporate a double stitch technology that makes our pieces much sturdier, ensuring they don’t tear, stretch, or move where they shouldn’t.
The production process has a direct impact on a garment’s longevity, performance and fit. Attention to detail is so crucial at this point; one small error can deem a garment unusable. At Ninefoot, we have stringent quality controls in place to make sure that every piece is produced according to our standards.
